AFO atau ‘Ankle Foot Orthoses’ adalah sebuah plastik yang dibuat dan dibentuk yang berfungsi untuk menjaga kaki dan pergelangan kaki supaya memiliki posisi yang baik dan nyaman untuk berdiri maupun berjalan bagi anak Anda. Anak Anda bisa saja hanya membutuhkan sepatu AFO untuk satu kaki atau bisa juga kedua kakinya tergantung kondisinya. Indikasi
- Cerebral palsy yang mengalami kaki lemah;

Fungsi AFO
- Sebagai alat terapi agar kondisi kaki anak yang lemah tidak semakin parah;
- Pada kasus anak celebral palsy, AFO berfungsi untuk mencegah kaki anak yang masuk ke arah dalam, dan memperbaiki pola jalan;
- Mengkoreksi telapak kaki anak yang jinjit atau kaku;
- Sebagai penguat kaki, untuk mengembalikan posisi normal bagian ankle.
Cara Penggunaan AFO
- Dudukkan anak Anda di depan Anda dengan pinggul dan lutut ditekuk. Tarik kaus kaki anak dan pastikan tidak ada kerutan di dalamnya;
- Putar kaki anak ke arah tengah sebelum mengangkat kaki ke arah lutut;
- Tempatkan tumit anak Anda di bagian belakang AFO, lalu kencangkan tali penahan tumit dengan erat. Periksa apakah tumit berada di tempatnya dengan mengangkat jari kaki untuk melihat;
- Terakhir kencangkan tali atas dan kenakan sepatu untuk anak Anda.
Untuk pertama kali pemakaian AFO, mungkin anak tidak nyaman dengan AFO nya. Anda bisa membuat jadwal secara bertahap, misalnya:
- Hari 1 = 30-60 menit
- Hari 2 = 1-2 jam
- Hari 3 = 3-4 jam
- Hari 4 = 4-5 jam
